UPDATE: Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood Shooting Death Determined to be Homicide, Victim Identified

An autopsy was performed by the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office and the cause and manner of death ruled to be homicide by gunshot. The deceased was identified as Jose Monroy Castaneda, 52. His family has been notified of his death and they are asking for privacy at this time. No photograph is available.

This is still an active investigation and no further information is being released at this time. On 4/23/2022 at approximately 1:12 AM, Officers from the East Precinct on patrol found a person shot at SE 136th Avenue and SE Powell Blvd in the Powellhurst-Gilbert neighborhood.

Medical crews arrived however the victim, an adult male, did not survive his injuries.

No suspect information is being released at this time and there have been no arrests made.
