Today marks the two year anniversary since George Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer. The Portland Police Bureau acknowledges the sadness still felt as a result of his death, and we join with the community in mourning.

PPB is aware of planned events within the City of Portland commemorating Mr. Floyd's life and death, and we fully support the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment to assemble. Although we do not expect these events to be anything but peaceful, the Portland Police Bureau will be monitoring, and will respond should individuals threaten life, safety, or serious property damage.

“We are grateful to the many positive voices who are working to bring about lasting and meaningful change,” said Chief Chuck Lovell. “We are committed to continuing that work with our valued community partners and those who want to engage with PPB to continue to build relationships and trust through community engagement.”
