PPB Street Racing Mission (Photo)

A street-racing mission conducted overnight by the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) resulted in several arrests, towed vehicles, and the recovery of a firearm.

On the evening of June 12, 2022, and into the early hours of June 13, 2022, PPB ran a street mission throughout the City of Portland. Patrol officers, the Air Support Unit, K9 officers and former members of the Traffic Division worked together to address street takeovers that resulted in seven people being arrested or cited, and their cars being towed.

These street takeovers are large events often attended by hundreds of people, and they can be dangerous. Just before midnight on June 12, 2022, officers were attempting to address a large group of over 200 people who had taken over the intersection of Northeast 13th Avenue and Northeast Multnomah Street. As officers began disbursing the crowd, they heard multiple shots being fired. A witness reported seeing someone shooting from their vehicle. After the area was cleared, officers located evidence of the shooting. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Many times, drivers are not cooperative when officers attempt to stop their vehicles. The Air Unit was invaluable in following these individuals until their vehicles could be disabled. And even then, when some eluding drivers were finally stopped, they ran away on foot. The keen noses of PPB’s K9 partners made finding these drivers that much easier. The following individuals were arrested or cited as part of the latest street racing mission:
