The bicyclist involved in this crash has been identified as 70-year-old Martin Crommie. His family has been notified of his death.

The Major Crash Team investigation found the cyclist was riding an e-bike northbound in traffic. Once the cyclist moved to the side of the road, the driver of the vehicle involved, a 2021 Toyota Tacoma, began to pass the cyclist. The cyclist then made a sudden left turn for an unknown reason, colliding with the left side of the vehicle.

This was the 32nd traffic fatality for 2022 in the City of Portland, and the second involving a bicycle.

On Sunday July 10, 2022 at 10:14 p.m., officers from the North Precinct were dispatched to a report of a vehicle/bicyclist crash at the intersection of North Juneau Street and North Chautauqua Boulevard. When officers arrived, they learned from paramedics at the scene that the bicyclist had died. The involved driver remained at the scene.

The Portland Police Major Crash Team is responding to investigate. During the investigation, North Chautauqua Boulevard will be closed from North Juneau Street to North Columbia Boulevard.
