PPB is currently investigating concerns related to doxing and threats to PPB members and/or their families related to recent officer-involved shootings. The investigation of possible doxing and threats raises safety concerns for officers involved in shootings. PPB has determined that there are credible security threats to officers involved in recent shootings and therefore, PPB is withholding the name of the involved member during the pendency of the doxing investigation. Once the investigation is completed, PPB will reassess the security threat and will release the name of the officer involved in the shooting when the threat no longer exists.

UPDATE:

On 7/27/22 at approximately 8:17 p.m., Officers from the East Precinct responded to the 100 block of SE 126th Ave in the Hazelwood neighborhood. Multiple 911 callers had reported that a person was in the front yard of a house firing a gun. Call takers from the Bureau of Emergency Communications could hear shots being fired in the background of 911 calls.

Officers arrived and requested assistance from the Focused Intervention Team (FIT). During this incident, an officer from FIT fired their weapon, striking the suspect. Paramedics were on scene to render aid but the suspect was declared deceased.

The Mayor's office was notified of this incident. Assistant Chief of Investigations Jami Resch is on scene and said, "The level of violence officers have been responding to is unprecedented."

Per policy, the Portland Police Homicide Unit is on scene and investigating. If anyone has information about this incident and has not already spoken to police, please contact Detective Brian Simms at Brian.Simms@portlandoregon.gov or Detective Meghan Burkeen at Meghan.Burkeen@portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 22-201695.

As part of the use of force review process, the Bureau will conduct an internal review of the entire incident, including the initial response, resources requested, tactics used, and post shooting actions. The case will go before the Police Review Board (PRB), which is composed of community members, Bureau members, and representatives from the Independent Police Review Division.
