Hazelwood Homicide Victim Identified (Photo)

The victim in this homicide is identified as 40-year-old Scott Joseph Tovar, of Vancouver, WA. The Medical Examiner’s Office determined the manner and cause of death to be homicide by gunshot wound. Tovar’s family has been notified of his death, and they provided the attached picture for public release. Tovar’s family is asking for privacy at this time.

One man has died after a shooting in the Hazelwood Neighborhood.

On Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 8:07p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a report of a person shot at East Burnside Street and Southeast 127th Avenue. When officers arrived, they located one man deceased.

The suspect or suspects fled the scene and no immediate arrests were made.

Portland Police Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene and are investigating. During the investigation, East Burnside Street is closed between Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast 133rd Avenue. The PIO is not responding to the scene.
