Portland Police and Portland Fire are responding to an explosion at the food cart pod located near the intersection of Southwest 5th Avenue and Southwest Harvey Milk Street.
On August 28, 2022, at 3:40am, callers reported an explosion at the food cart pods in Downtown Portland. Officers responded to find an explosion had shattered a large number of windows in the surrounding block. Officers searched the area for individuals who may have been injured as a result of the explosions, but were not immediately able to locate anyone who has been injured.
Portland Police Bureau’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) will be sweeping the area for explosive devices and will be conducting a post blast analysis, after which Portland Fire’s Arson Investigator will conduct an investigation. While these investigations are occurring, Southwest 5th Avenue will be closed from Southwest Oak Street to Southwest Washington Street, and Southwest Harvey Milk Street will be closed from Southwest 4th Avenue to Southwest 6th Avenue.
