Officers Arrest Suspect in Connection to Homicide in NE Portland (Photo)

On Sunday, October 23, 2022, 22-year-old Zachary Tyler Hackman was arrested and charged in connection with the Murder of James Harris, whose body was found on October 9, 2022. Hackman was arrested by East Precinct Officers while responding to an unrelated call for service.

Hackman transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and booked on an unrelated warrant along with Murder II, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Abuse of a Corpse. This case is still under investigation. What originally began as a suspicious death investigation has now turned into a homicide investigation.

The Medical Examiner's Office has determined that the victim, identified as 54-year-old James Orlando Harris, died of homicidal violence. Harris' family has been notified of his death, and they provided the attached picture for public release.

James Harris' family is requesting privacy at this time.

Detectives with Portland's Homicide Unit are asking for the public's help as they investigate a suspicious death.

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, at 6:31 p.m., officers from North Precinct were dispatched to a suspicious circumstances call in the 0-100 Block of Northeast Marine Drive. Officers arrived to find a person deceased. The Portland Police Homicide unit responded to investigate, and is requesting the public's help regarding this suspicious death.
