The investigation into this morning's crash on Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard is continuing. Investigators have learned that three vehicles were involved in the crash:

* A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 39-year-old David McGrew
* A 2013 Toyota Tundra pickup driven by 39-year-old Malcolm Cushing
* A 2006 Peterbilt tractor driven by 51-year-old Rafael Tayag

All three vehicles were traveling northbound on McLoughlin at Southeast Tacoma Street. At this intersection, the extreme right late must turn right and the lane does not continue northbound.

The 2013 Toyota Tundra, driven by Cushing, merged left from the "right turn only" lane into the middle lane. The 2006 Chevy Silverado, driven by McGrew, pulled around the right of the Tundra, into the "right turn only" lane, and attempted to pass the Toyota on the right using the discontinued lane. In doing so, the Chevy clipped the right front of the Toyota.

The collision caused the Chevy to veer left into the Jersey barrier then back right off the roadway, shearing a light pole and crashing into a tree then catching fire.

The Toyota then collided with the 2006 Peterbilt and both vehicles stopped. Neither driver was injured.

McGrew is in critical condition at a Portland hospital but is expected to survive.

None of the three drivers was impaired by drugs or alcohol. Investigator believe that the speed of the Chevy and Toyota pickups, combined with the passing maneuvers were contributors to the crash.

No citations have been issued and once the investigation is complete it will be given to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for review.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to contact Officer Erik Koppang at (503) 823-2216 or erik.koppang@portlandoregon.gov.

Southeast McLoughlin Boulevard reopened to all traffic at approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning.

There are no further updates at this time.

The driver transported from the scene is now reported to have life-threatening injuries. The Traffic Division's Major Crash Team is responded to complete the crash investigation and will work to reopen McLoughlin Boulevard as soon as possible. Delays may continue for the next couple of hours.
