Homicide detectives have positively identified today's homicide victim as 32-year-old Jose Manuel Alvarez-Madrigal.

Alvarez-Madrigal was found deceased with a gunshot wound this morning in a vehicle on Northeast 38th Avenue and Shaver Street.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy on Friday to determine the exact cause of death.

At this point, there is no information that suggests neighborhood residents are at any risk.

Homicide detectives are asking for the public's help in this case. Information about Alvarez-Madrigal, witnesses seeing him in the area of Northeast 38th Avenue and Shaver Street, or information about the vehicle, described as a blue 2002 Hyundai Elantra 4-door, should be given to Homicide detectives.

The photo has been provided by the victim's family to assist in this investigation.

Today, Thursday October 31, 2013, at 10:02 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to the 3800 block of Northeast Shaver Street on the report of a person slumped in a vehicle.

Officers and medical personnel arrived and determined that the person was deceased. After a preliminary investigation, Homicide detectives were called to the scene.

At this point, detectives are in the early stages of a homicide investigation and no further details are available.

Interested media may stage at Northeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard and Shaver. The PIO will be at the scene at approximately 2:00 p.m. to brief media.
