Murder suspect Jose Caraballo has been arrested in Southern Oregon. Portland Police Homicide Unit detectives were notified that on December 23, 2022 at about 2:00p.m., Central Point Police Department officers arrested Caraballo on his warrant for Murder in the Second Degree (Domestic Violence). He was booked into the Jackson County Jail. He will be transferred to Multnomah County at a later time.

PPB is asking for the public’s help in finding a man wanted for murder.
Police are looking for 43-year-old Jose Antonio Caraballo, who is wanted for the murder of his girlfriend, 27-year-old Kathryn Muhlbach. A nationwide arrest warrant has been issued for Caraballo for the charge of Murder in the Second Degree (Domestic Violence). Caraballo is believed to have fled the Portland area; however, his last known address is within the Portland city limits. He is known to have associates in Oregon, California and Mexico.
Anyone who sees Caraballo or believes they have information that could lead to his arrest is asked to immediately call 911.

The suspicious death associated with the body found on December 9, 2022, at the Powell Butte Nature Park is now being investigated as a homicide. The Medical Examiner determined the manner and cause of death to be homicide by homicidal violence.
The victim is identified as 27-year-old Kathryn Muhlbach. Ms. Muhlbach's family provided the attached photograph for public release.

A death investigation is underway in Powell Butte Nature Park.
On Friday, December 9, 2022 at 3:16p.m., East Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a person found deceased in Powell Butte Nature Park, 16160 Southeast Powell Boulevard. When officers arrived they located a deceased person. Due to suspicious circumstances, Portland Police Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene to investigate. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
