UPDATE: Suspect Who Prompted Evening Standoff Identified

The suspect in this case is identified as 30-year-old Christopher Sean O'Connor. O'Connor was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on the charges of Robbery in the First Degree (two counts), Burglary in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle (two counts) and Assault in the Fourth Degree. O'Connor also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Update 2/1/23 1:00 a.m.

The suspect in this incident was located hiding in the attic of the home. The suspect was taken into custody by SERT officers. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit will be taking over the investigation. More information will be released when appropriate.

Update 1/31/22 8:37 p.m:

Officers from East Precinct originally responded to a report of a stolen vehicle tracking to a fast-food restaurant near NE 103rd Ave and NE Weidler Street. Officers located the stolen vehicle in the drive through of the restaurant, and the driver bailed from the car. Officers pursued the suspect into another local restaurant where the suspect went into the kitchen and armed himself with a meat cleaver.

A Taser device was deployed but the suspect fled from the restaurant and carjacked a passing motorist.

Officers located the carjacked vehicle on NE 122nd Ave where the suspect attempted to carjack additional vehicles.

The suspect ran from officers into the neighborhood and made entry into a private home. Officers have the home surrounded and members of the Crisis Negotiation Team are currently in talks with the suspect.

There are currently no reported injuries to any of the victims.

More information will be released when appropriate.

On 1/31/22 at approximately 7:30 p.m. officers from the East Precinct requested assistance from the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), for an on-going emergency near NE 122nd Avenue and NE Broadway in East Portland.

The PIO is responding to the scene. Media staging will be at the Wells Fargo on NE 122nd Ave at NE Broadway.

NE 122nd Ave will be closed from NE Halsey St to NE San Rafael St while negotiators attempt a peaceful resolution to this incident.

More information will be released shortly.
