Today, Monday December 16, 2013, at 10:19 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the call of a disturbance at a residence in Southeast Portland's Centennial neighborhood. When the officers arrived they learned that no crime had occurred but that the female resident was struggling to figure out how to provide a nice Christmas for her three children, ages 2, 5 and 12.

The officers noted that there was no Christmas tree or gifts in the home and the family was clearly in a difficult situation. Officers George Weseman and Rob Jackson left the home and purchased a Christmas tree, lights, stockings and stocking stuffers for the family.

The officers then went to the Portland Fire & Rescue Toy n' Joy Makers and, with their help, the officers got several boxes of toys for the kids for Christmas.

The officers also contacted the Portland Police Bureau's Sunshine Division and got a food box for the family.

Portland Fire & Rescue Toy n' Joy Makers has a 99 year tradition of helping children and families during the holiday season.
