On Sunday December 22, 2013, at 11:03 a.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southwest 11th Avenue and Columbia Street on the report of a man and a car on fire.

Portland Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire and medical personnel treated the man for injuries. He has been identified as 62-year-old Harry Frederick Suniville.

Officers learned that Suniville had stolen a partially-filled gas can from a truck parked next to Suniville's vehicle. Suniville then proceeded to begin pouring the gas into his own vehicle, while he smoked a cigarette. The gasoline ignited, burning his socks and pants and singeing his eyebrows and hair.

Suniville's vehicle suffered fire damage and was towed from the scene. The victim's vehicle also suffered fire damage but remained parked in the parking lot.

After being treated at the scene by medical personnel, Suniville was charged with Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, Reckless Burning and Theft in the Third Degree.

Suniville was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and will be arraigned on Monday.
