Robbery detectives are continuing to investigate last night's shooting in Downtown Portland.

The 32-year-old victim remains hospitalized after being shot in one of his legs.

The 40-year-old suspect also remains hospitalized after receiving a gunshot wound to his testicles, not leg as initially reported.

Additional information will be released when it becomes available.

Robbery detectives are responding to conduct an investigation into this evening's shooting in Downtown Portland.

Preliminary information indicates that the male adult victim and the male adult suspect live in the same building, located on the southwest corner of Southwest 9th Avenue and Columbia Street.

Witnesses described a disturbance in the back parking lot of the building where the shooting occurred. The victim ran over to the Safeway store entrance at 10th Avenue and Columbia Street and waited inside for medical attention. He was transported to a Portland hospital with a leg injury.

Based on information from witnesses that the suspect ran back into the residential building, officers began the process of surrounding the building to contain the suspect. As this was underway, officers at Southwest 6th Avenue and Mill Street located the suspect who was also suffering a gunshot wound to a leg. Officers recovered a handgun from the suspect and he was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment.

Officers are investigating the possibility that the suspect accidentally shot himself in the leg.

There are indications that the dispute between the men may have been a robbery so Robbery detectives are responding to investigate.

Several streets were closed to all traffic as the investigation developed and most have reopened.

No additional updates are expected until sometime on Wednesday.

Media briefing will be in 15 minutes at Southwest 11th Avenue and Columbia Street.

This will be the only media briefing tonight.

This evening, Tuesday January 28, 2014, at 7:55 p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to Southwest 10th Avenue and Jefferson Street on the report of a shooting. Officers arrived in the area and located a male adult victim who was suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

As officers were receiving information that the possible suspect might be in a neighboring building, the suspect was located by officers in the area and was taken into custody. The suspect was also suffering a gunshot wound that does not appear to be life-threatening.

This is an active, developing investigation and additional details will be released when they are available.

Media staging will be at Southwest Broadway and Clay Street, PIO is enroute.
