Portland Police Sex Crimes Detectives are asking for the public's help in solving a sexual assault that occurred on Tuesday.

This investigation started on Tuesday January 28, 2014, at 8:30 p.m., when North Precinct officers responded to a residence in Northeast Portland's Grant Park neighborhood on the report of a sexual assault.

The victim, a 22-year-old woman, told officers that at approximately 7:00 p.m., she'd been out walking on Northeast 36th Avenue, passing Grant High School when a man pulled up in a vehicle and stopped. The victim told police that the man got out of the vehicle, grabbed her, slammed her face into the side of the truck and drug her into the North end of Grant Park and sexually assaulted her.

The victim told police that the suspect ran away and the victim walked back to her house and called 9-1-1. The victim was later treated at a Portland hospital.

The suspect is described as a light or tan-skinned male in his 20s, 5'7" tall, large dark eyebrows, a thin scar from his upper lip to cheek, and unshaven, wearing baggy blue jeans and a baseball cap. He was driving a white or light-colored Chevy Tahoe or Blazer SUV.

The Portland Police Bureau would like to remind community members that stranger-to-strangers sexual assaults fortunately are a rare occurrence.

The Portland Police Bureau works with the Sexual Assault Resource Center of Oregon (SARC) and we want you to know that you need not be alone as a survivor of a sexual assault. SARC has a 24-hour support line at (503) 640-5311.

Additionally, the Portland Police Bureau WomenStrength and GirlStrength programs provide free self-defense classes and personal safety workshops to people around the Portland area.
