Victim of Stabbing Homicide Identified
The victim in this homicide is identified as 43-year-old Reese McDowell Lawhon. The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the manner and cause of death to be homicide by stabbing. Lawhon’s family provided the attached picture for public release and is requesting privacy at this time.
This incident has created a high level of public alarm in the immediate area of its occurrence, as rumors circulate among community members that the homicide was the result of gun violence surrounding nearby houseless camps. A preliminary, but thorough investigation has concluded that neither the stabbing victim nor the suspect were associated to these camps.

The suspect in this homicide is identified as 30-year-old Moses Lopez. Lopez was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center and is charged with Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The identity of the victim will be released after they are positively identified, the Medical Examiner has confirmed cause of death, and after family members have been notified. More information will be released when appropriate.

One person is deceased after a stabbing in the Buckman Neighborhood.
On Sunday, April 9, 2023, at 6:41p.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to a report of a stabbing near the intersection of Southeast Washington Street and Southeast Water Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man who was deceased.
One person has been detained and officers are not currently looking for any suspects.
Portland Police Homicide detectives are responding to the scene to investigate. The case number is 23-91797.
During the investigation, Southeast Water Avenue will be closed between Southeast Stark Street and Southeast Morrison Street. Southeast Washington Street will be closed from Southeast Water Avenue to Southeast 2nd Avenue.
