Southeast Portland Homicide Victim Identified (Photo)

The victim in this homicide is identified as 29-year-old Zachery Freeman. The Medical Examiner confirmed the manner and cause of death to be homicide by gunshot wound. Freeman’s family has been notified of his death and they have provided the attached photograph for public release.

By the evening of Sunday, April 23, 2023, Portland Police Homicide Detectives had identified the suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Monday, April 24, 2023, the suspect in this homicide was involved in an officer involved shooting in Clackamas County and is deceased. The Clackamas County Major Crimes Team and District Attorney’s Office are the lead investigative agencies for this incident, and all future updates will be released by the Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office. On 4/23/23 at approximately 10:26 a.m. officers from the East Precinct responded to a report of a shooting inside of a business on the 5200 block of Southeast Foster Road. Officers arrived on scene and found a person deceased. Detectives from the Homicide Unit and Criminalists from the Forensic Evidence Division responded to being their investigation.

Anyone with information on this incident who has not yet spoken to police is asked to contact Detective Meghan Burkeen at or Detective Brian Sims at and reference case number 23-105084.
