The victim who died in the Northwest District Neighborhood shooting April 28 is identified as
James R. Rodgers, Jr., 55. His family has been notified of his death. The medical examiner determined that he died of homicide by gunshot.

The injured female victim was treated and has been released from the hospital.

One victim died, another was injured after a shooting in the Northwest District Neighborhood.

On Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:23p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to a report of a shooting at Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest Irving Street. When officers arrived, they located two injured victims, a male and a female. The male appeared to have life threatening injuries and officers began applying trauma first aid and CPR. EMS arrived and paramedics attempted additional life saving measures, but the man died at the scene. The injured woman was transported to the hospital by ambulance with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

The suspect or suspects left the scene before police arrived and no arrests have been made.

Portland Police Homicide Unit Detectives are responding to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, streets are closed in a 1 block radius of Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest Irving Street.
