On Sunday March 23, 2014, at 11:23 p.m., East Precinct and Gang Enforcement Team officers responded to the report of a fight and gunshots heard at Southeast 122nd Avenue and Mill Street.

Multiple officers arrived at the scene and located a large group of teens in the street and one gunshot victim, a teen-aged girl. The victim was transported to a Portland hospital with what is believed to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

As officers were attempting to locate a crime scene, several fights broke out in the crowd and additional officers were called to restore order in the neighborhood.

Officers located a crime scene and evidence of gunfire on Mill Street, East of 122nd Avenue.

Limited suspect information is an African American male in his late teens or early 20s, 5'11" tall, average build, fired several rounds into the crowd then ran eastbound on Mill Avenue.

Preliminary information indicates that there was a party at the American Legion hall, located at 1830 Southeast 122nd Avenue, and that two groups of people were involved in a verbal dispute outside, resulting in someone firing a gun.

As the shooting appears to be gang-related, the Gang Enforcement Team is at the scene and will be conducting the investigation. Additionally, members of the Crisis Response Team and Youth Gang Outreach are responding to assist with easing tension among the crowd.

Southeast 122nd Avenue, both directions, is closed from approximately Mill Court to Stephens Street to allow officers to process the crime scene.

No additional updates are expected to be released until at least mid-morning on Monday.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has pertinent information is asked to call the police non-emergency line at (503) 823-3333.
