The pedestrian killed in the Sunderland Neighborhood hit-and-run crash is identified as Travis Philmlee, Jr., 26. His family has been notified of his death.

Preliminary investigation suggests that one or more occupants in a vehicle, described as a “lifted” white pickup truck, were throwing fireworks out onto the street as they were driving up and down Northeast 33rd Drive. People, including Travis Philmlee, Jr., came out of nearby RVs and into the street to confront the person throwing the fireworks. The unknown driver got into a vehicle, described as a black or silver sedan, and drove after the pickup truck. The pickup driver swerved to avoid Philmlee in the street, but the pursuing vehicle struck and killed Philmlee. After the crash, the driver left the scene in the vehicle.

The occupants of the pickup and the driver of the sedan are being sought by the Traffic Investigations Unit. If anyone has information about the vehicles or their occupants, please contact us at crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov attn:TIU and reference case number 23-171259.

This is the 31st Major Crash Team activation, 12th pedestrian fatality, and 31st traffic fatality for 2023 in the City of Portland.
