UPDATE #2: Suspect Arrested in Buckman Neighborhood Stabbing, Faces Murder Charge (Photo)

This afternoon, a suspect was arrested in the July 2, 2023 stabbing murder of Colin M. Smith in the Buckman Neighborhood.

Rahnique U. Jackson, 24, of Portland, was arrested by members of the United States Marshals Service in Southeast Portland. He was transferred to PPB Homicide Unit detectives, interviewed, and then booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Colin Smith’s family has been notified of the arrest.

The victim is identified as Colin Michael Smith, 32, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death. They provided the attached photograph for public release, saying Colin’s cat is named Smokey and meant the world to him. A family representative is willing to speak to media. The medical examiner determined that he died of homicide by stabbing.

One person is deceased after a stabbing in the Buckman Neighborhood.

On Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 1:49a.m., Central Precinct officers were dispatched to a report that someone was stabbed in the 1400 block of Southeast 12th Avenue. When they arrived, they located an adult male deceased at the scene.

The suspect or suspects left the area and no immediate arrests were made.

The Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene to investigate the incident. During the investigation, Southeast 12th Avenue is closed between Southeast Main Street and Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard. Southeast Madison Street is closed between Southeast 11th Avenue and Southeast 13th Avenue.
