On Wednesday, July 5, 2023, members of the PPB Human Trafficking Unit served search warrants at multiple locations and arrested a suspect involved in a shooting that occurred in May in the Old Town neighborhood. Devario L. Preston, 25, of Portland, was booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center on an arrest warrant for Attempted Murder, Attempted Assault I, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
Investigators with the Human Trafficking Unit located additional evidence that led to search warrants at multiple locations in Northeast and Southeast Portland. Firearms and other evidence were collected as a result of the warrants. The Human Trafficking Unit was assisted by PPB’s Special Emergency Reaction Team and Crisis Negotiation Team as well as the Central Precinct Entertainment Detail.
This arrest and subsequent warrants were a result of a shooting in the early morning hours of May 7, 2023. Officers with the Central Precinct Entertainment Detail responded to a shooting in the area of the 200 Block of NW Davis St as the bars and venues in Old Town were closing. Officers located a victim with a bullet strike to their vehicle and bullet fragments in the car. Entertainment Detail officers gathered witness statements and video from surrounding businesses as part of the investigation.
This investigation is ongoing. Investigators are asking anyone with additional information about the shooting or the subject to email humantrafficking@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 23- 188696.
