Driver Arrested, Charged with Manslaughter -- Victim Identified

The victim in this crash is identified as Jean Diaz. Diaz’s family has been notified of her death and is requesting privacy at this time.

The driver who caused this crash is identified as 48-year-old Kevin Michael Scott. Scott was detained at the scene and showed signs of impairment from alcohol. He was evaluated for DUII and later booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on the charges of Manslaughter in the First Degree, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, and Reckless Driving.

A crash resulted in the death of one person in the Sunnyside Neighborhood.

On Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 6:25p.m., Central Precinct and East Precinct officers responded to a report of a crash at Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard and Southeast Taylor Street. When officers arrived they found a car rolled over onto the sidewalk and through a bus stop. A person who was in the bus stop was deceased at the scene. The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene and was not injured.

The Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team responded to the scene to investigate the crash. During the investigation, Southeast Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard is closed both directions between Southeast Yamhill Street and Southeast Salmon Street.
