Help Identify Random Assault Suspect (Photo)

Detectives with Portland’s Major Crimes Unit are requesting the public’s help with identifying and locating the suspect in a seemingly random assault.

On July 28, 2023, at 10:50 p.m., a woman was walking near the intersection of Southwest 17th Avenue and Southwest Yamhill Street when a man unknown to the victim threw a metal bottle directly at her face. The force of the impact caused the victim to lose consciousness. After the assault, the suspect left the area heading east on Yamhill Street.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s-30s. He was last seen wearing a dark flannel jacket with a black or darker hood, black shirt with a white logo across the chest area, black pants, and carrying a backpack. This release includes still images of the suspect and video of the assault in order to assist potential witnesses who might know the suspect’s identity or whereabouts.
