UPDATE: Suspect Charged with Attempted Murder After Vehicular Assault

The driver in this morning’s Cully Neighborhood crash is facing attempted murder and other charges.

The initial investigation indicates that there was a dispute between known persons and the suspect, Sonia Velasquez-Anicui, 18, of Portland, intentionally ran over the adult female victim with a sedan.

The victim is in critical condition at the hospital.

Velasquez-Anicui was interviewed by detectives and then booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Assault in the First Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.

A pedestrian-involved crash has left a woman with life threatening injuries in the Cully Neighborhood, and detectives are responding.

On Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 3:36a.m., North Precinct Officers responded to a report of a crash at Northeast 72nd Avenue and Northeast Lombard Street. When they arrived they found a pedestrian had been struck by the driver of a car and seriously injured. The pedestrian, an adult female, was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The car was located and the suspected driver was detained.

Due to the initial information learned at the scene, Detectives are responding to investigate. During the investigation, Northeast Lombard Street is closed between Northeast Killingsworth Street and Northeast 73rd Avenue.
