UPDATE: Suspect In November Homicide Arrested (Photo)

On November 15, 2023, Portland Police Bureau homicide detectives responded to a shooting in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood to begin an investigation on the death of 25-year-old Justin D. Sartin. Through their investigation, detectives were able to identify 18-year-old Malacai Gant as the suspect involved in the homicide. Detectives, working with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office, were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Gant.

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at 4:03 p.m., homicide detectives, with the assistance of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Gant. Gant will be transferred to the Multnomah County Detention Center and booked on charges of Murder in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle related to the homicide. The victim’s family has been notified.

The case remains under investigation, and no further details are being released at this time.

One person is dead after a shooting in the Powellhurst-Gilbert Neighborhood.

On November 15, 2023, at approximately 1:45 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to a shooting at a business near Southeast 122nd Avenue and Southeast Clinton Street. Officers found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided life-saving measures to the victim before he was transported to a local hospital where he died.

The suspect(s) fled before officers arrived. No arrests have been made.

Portland Police Homicide Unit Detectives responded to the scene and are investigating.
