UPDATE: Suspect Arrested for Murder of Eric Bankhead

A suspect is in custody facing a murder charge related to the November 21st homicide of Eric Bankhead in the Cully Neighborhood.

The Portland Police Bureau Homicide Unit investigation led to a suspect, 35-year-old Steven Joseph Bricker. On January 4, 2024, a Grand Jury returned an indictment for Bricker for Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a Firearm, Unlawful Use of a Weapon with a Firearm, and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. On Monday, January 8, 2024, the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force arrested Bricker and he was lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Eric Bankhead’s family has been notified of the arrest.

The victim in the fatal shooting in the Cully Neighborhood is identified as Eric Bankhead, 33, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death. They provided the attached photograph for public distribution and they are asking for privacy at this time.

The Medical Examiner determined that he died of homicide by gunshot wound.

No arrests have been made. The case remains under investigation. A shooting in the Cully Neighborhood has left 1 man deceased.

On Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 9:55p.m., North Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting at a house in the 4700 block of Northeast 62nd Avenue. When officers arrived they found an adult male deceased at the scene.

The suspect or suspects left the scene before police were called and no immediate arrests were made.

Detectives with the Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene to investigate. No additional information is available for release at this time.
