UPDATE: Victim in Buckman Neighborhood Shooting Identified

The man killed in a shooting in the Buckman Neighborhood has been identified as 49-year-old Michael L. Hart. His family has been notified of his death and they are requesting privacy at this time.

The Medical Examiner determined Hart died of homicide by gunshot wound.

A man died after a shooting in the Buckman Neighborhood.

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 1:48p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to a report of a shooting near Southeast Main Street and Southeast Water Avenue. When they arrived they found a victim down with bystanders performing CPR. EMS arrived as well, but despite lifesaving measures, the adult male victim died at the scene.

The suspect or suspects left the scene before police were called. Officers did an extensive search of the area, but no immediate arrests were made. One person was briefly detained during the search but was released after it was determined he was uninvolved.

The Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene to investigate.
