UPDATE: Victim in Deadly Shooting in Northwest Portland Identified (Photo)

The individual killed in a shooting in Northwest Portland on December 20, 2023, has been identified as Javaun R. Johnson, 17, of Beaverton. His family has been notified of his death and they provided the attached photo for release, but they are requesting privacy at this time.

The Medical Examiner determined Johnson died of homicide by gunshot.

On Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at 12:10 a.m., officers from the Central Precinct responded to a shooting call in the 200 block of Northwest Trinity Place. When officers arrived, they found a man who had been shot. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene.

The Portland Police Homicide detectives have responded to the scene to investigate. If anyone has information about this incident, they are asked to please contact Detective Calvin Goldring at Calvin.Goldring@police.portlandoregon.gov and by phone at 503-823-0256 or Detective Brad Clifton at Brad.Clifton@police.portlandoregon.gov and by phone at 503-823-0696. During the investigation, Northwest Trinity Place will be closed from West Burnside to Northwest Everett Street and Northwest Everett Street will be closed from Northwest 19th Avenue to Northwest 20th Avenue.

The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
