As we prepare to close out 2023, the Portland Police Bureau is pleased to present to our community a year-end review video featuring Chief Bob Day. The video is available on our YouTube channel here:
The video provides a summary of our challenges and our opportunities this year, and our outlook for the new year. Chief Day highlights efforts to address a wide variety of public safety challenges, including shootings and illegally possessed guns, stolen vehicles, drug dealing, human trafficking, and car thefts, and how many of those efforts are improving crime rates. He speaks to professional, innovative, data-driven public safety work done by PPB sworn and professional staff, and the partnerships we continue to maintain with other law enforcement agencies and community groups. And he shows how PPB is implementing technologies such as drones and body worn cameras. More information on those programs is available right on our home page:
Chief Day also speaks about our recruiting and hiring efforts to further improve service to our city. We hired 61 officers and 58 professional staff members this year, and that effort continues. If you’d like to help us recruit the next generation of Portland Police members, please see our website https://joinportlandpolice.com/ . Hiring workshops are coming up.
The video ends with a call to action from our community to be involved as we work toward a safer Portland. Happy new year!
