The motorcyclist who died on January 1, 2024 at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Woodstock Boulevard is identified as Jesse J. Loyer, 32, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Loyer was riding a 2023 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on Southeast 82nd Avenue when he rear-ended a 2011 Hyundai Sonata that was stopped at a red light. Loyer did not appear to be wearing a helmet. There were 2 occupants of the Sonata, an adult male and an adult female, who suffered minor injuries.
This is the first fatal crash of 2024.

On Monday, January 1, 2024, at 10:23 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to a crash near the intersection of Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Woodstock Boulevard. Officers arrived to find a crash between a motorcycle and a car. The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital where he later died. The occupants of the car suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene to cooperate with the investigation.
The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team is responding to the scene to investigate. During the investigation Southeast 82nd Avenue will be closed in both directions between Southeast Martins Street and Southeast Ramona Street.
