The man killed in the Centennial Neighborhood shooting has been identified as Montrell D. Goss, 37, of Portland. His family has been notified of his death and provided the attached photo for public release.

The Medical Examiner determined Goss died of homicide by gunshot wound.

Through the investigation, detectives determined there was an argument between Goss and a man in the bar. Goss left the bar and went to his vehicle where he retrieved a firearm. Goss returned to the bar and got into a confrontation and shots were fired. Two guns were recovered from the scene.

This is an ongoing investigation that involves East Precinct officers, PPB’s Focused Intervention Team, Enhanced Community Safety Team, Homicide Unit, and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office. All witnesses are cooperating with authorities.

At this stage in the investigation, no one has been charged with a crime. While the Portland Police Bureau and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office are in agreement on this decision, all evidence will be presented to a Grand Jury in the very near future.

Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact Detective Eric McDaniel Eric.McDaniel@police.portlandoregon.gov 503-823-0833 or Detective Sean Macomber Sean.Macomber@police.portlandoregon.gov 503-823-0404 and reference case number 24-26686.

A man has died after a shooting in a Centennial Neighborhood Bar, and all people who are believed to be directly involved have been interviewed.

On Friday, February 2, 2024 at 8:05p.m., East Precinct and Focused Intervention Team (FIT) officers were dispatched to a report of a shooting at a bar in the 17200 block of Southeast Division Street. Officers arrived and found an injured man inside the bar. Officers began trauma first aid until EMS arrived. Paramedics initiated advanced care before transporting the patient to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

The involved man remained on scene and spoke to officers, and no suspect is currently being sought. Enhanced Community Safety Team (ECST) detectives responded to the scene and began an investigation.

Several hours later, PPB was notified that despite lifesaving efforts by medical professionals, the patient died at the hospital. The Portland Police Homicide Unit was notified and is assuming the investigation.

Police believe there may be witnesses who left the bar without talking to police. If anyone has information about this incident, and has not spoken to investigators, please contact Detective Eric McDaniel at Eric.McDaniel@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-0833, or Detective Sean Macomber at Sean.Macomber@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-0404, and reference case number 24-26686.

No one has been charged with a crime at this stage in the investigation. Additional information will be released as appropriate.
