The man killed in a stabbing on the Steel Bridge has been identified as 38-year-old Fernando Luis Aguirre. His family has been notified of his death. They are requesting privacy at this time.

The Medical Examiner determined Aguirre died of homicide by stabbing.

Portland Police arrested and charged a suspect in Friday’s Steel Bridge stabbing homicide.

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 10:38 a.m., Central Precinct officers were dispatched to a report of a man threatening another man with a knife in the area of Northwest 3rd Avenue and Northwest Davis Street. When officers arrived, they located a man matching the description of the suspect walking at Northwest 5th Avenue and Northwest Flanders Street. The officers detained him. The victim in the case left and did not contact police.

Officers investigated and determined that the suspect in the case may be connected to the homicide. They notified detectives, who responded and interviewed the suspect. They booked the suspect, Noor M. Baheej, 31, into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect and the victim were engaged in a fight, and the suspect stabbed the victim in the leg with a knife. A knife has been seized as evidence.

The victim will be identified after family has been notified and the medical examiner determines official cause and manner of death.

This remains an open and active investigation, and detectives still want to speak with anyone who has information about this case. A man died after a stabbing at the Steel Bridge in Portland.

On Friday, March 15, 2024 at 1:13p.m., Central Precinct officers responded to a report of a stabbing on the pedestrian path of the Steel Bridge. When officers arrived, they located an adult male victim with serious injuries. Officers applied tourniquets to help control bleeding until EMS arrived. The man was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Despite lifesaving measures, the man died at the hospital.

The Portland Police Homicide Unit is responding to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, Tom McCall Waterfront Park is closed near the Steel Bridge, as is the pedestrian crossing over the bridge. Vehicular and TriMet traffic on the upper deck is unaffected.
