Two Portland Police officers suffered no injuries after their police vehicle was hit by another driver as they were responding to an emergency call.
On Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 7:11 p.m., two Portland Police officers assigned to East Precinct were driving, with lights and sirens activated, to an emergency call. They were eastbound on Northeast Glisan Street approaching the intersection with the I-205 off ramp. They were slowly clearing the intersection and traffic was yielding. A driver, who was approaching the intersection on the northbound I-205 off ramp, went around the cars yielding to the police and entered the intersection, crashing into the side of the police vehicle and causing it to roll over.
The officers did not report any injuries and were later transported by a police supervisor to a hospital for a precautionary evaluation. The driver of the other vehicle and a passenger declined medical treatment.
The Portland Police Traffic Division responded to the scene and investigated the crash. The intersection was closed during the investigation.
