The individual killed in the shooting at Northeast 148th Avenue and East Burnside Street on September 19, 2024, has been identified as Taysean Nash, 24, of Portland. Nash’s family has been notified of his death. They are requesting privacy at this time, but they did provide the attached photo and statement for public release.
“He touched many lives and had friends from all walks of life,” Nash’s mother said. “He loved and protected ALL of his siblings no matter what. And he is VERY LOVED by many.”
The Medical Examiner determined Nash died of homicide by gunshot wound.

The suspect is identified as 42-year-old Felix Angelo Juarez-Perez. He was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and lodged on the following charges: Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The victim’s family has been notified of the arrest.

A man has been shot and killed in the Hazelwood neighborhood.
On Thursday, September 19, 2024, at 7:26 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to the TriMet MAX platform at Northeast 148th Avenue and East Burnside Street on reports of a person shot. When officers arrived at the location, they found a male victim who died at the scene. A subject has been detained as part of the investigation.
Portland Police Bureau Homicide detectives are responding to the scene to investigate. During the investigation, East Burnside Street will be closed in both directions between 146th Avenue and 148th Avenue. Additionally, TriMet MAX service is currently not traveling through the intersection where this incident occurred.
The identity of the victim will be released after the Medical Examiner has confirmed the cause of death and after family members have been notified. The PIO is not responding to the scene. More information will be released when appropriate.
