UPDATE: Drivers Involved in Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash Indicted (Photo)

Two drivers involved in a September hit-and-run crash that resulted in the death of Cameron Barton (photo attached) have been indicted.

On Friday, November 29, 2024, a Multnomah Grand Jury returned true bill indictments for 39-year-old Julio C. Salazar-Arias and 26-year-old Sergio Cruz.

On Thursday, December 5, 2024, both drivers turned themselves in for warrants stemming from the indictments. Salazar-Arias was lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC) for Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver. Cruz was lodged in MCDC for Failure to Perform the Duties of a Driver and Initiating a False Report.

No further information will be released at this time.

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by at least one vehicle in a hit and run crash in the Hazelwood Neighborhood.

On Friday, September 27, 2024 at 10:04 p.m., Portland Police Officers from East Precinct responded to a report of a crash on East Burnside Street at Northeast 113th Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a pedestrian deceased at the scene. The driver or drivers involved left the scene and were not immediately located.

The Portland Police Traffic Division Major Crash Team is responding to the scene to investigate the crash. During the investigation, East Burnside Street is closed in both directions between Northeast 109th Avenue and Southeast Pine Court.
