Portland officers, with the help of a community member, interrupted an unfolding domestic violence situation before it escalated further.
On Monday, October 28, 2024, at 8:59 p.m., K9 Officer Benjamin Davidson was leaving East Precinct heard what he believed to be a large number of gunshots in rapid succession. He immediately put the information out over the radio and began searching the area where he believed the gunfire had originated. Officer Davidson located bullet casings and a silver Subaru that had been struck by at least seven bullets in the 10300 Block of Southeast Washington Street. As other officers arrived in the area, an alert bystander covertly motioned toward a man and woman who were walking away. The couple were detained and detectives with the Special Victims Unit responded to the scene.
After an initial investigation, Tyler Blair Archibald, 27, was arrested and booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Reckless Endangering, both with a DV modifier.
Anyone who believes they have information about this case and have not yet called police are asked to please contact Detective Jonathan Hunt at jonathan.hunt@police.portlandoregon.gov .
The Portland Police Bureau's Special Victim's Unit (SVU) investigates crimes against the elderly, crimes involving domestic violence, and crimes against vulnerable adults. They provide officers and detectives with specialized training in the dynamics of domestic violence. This unit also operates jointly with Multnomah County's Domestic Violence Enhanced Response Team (DVERT) on "high-lethality" cases of domestic violence (those cases with warning signs associated with the most severe and life-threatening cases of domestic violence).
