A suspect is facing robbery and weapons charges after threatening victims with a knife and stealing a sleeping bag.
On Saturday, December 7, 2024 at 10:59 a.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to North Precinct responded to a call of a stabbing occurring at North Williams Avenue and Northeast Multnomah Street in the Lloyd District Neighborhood. The first officers began arriving within 4 minutes and learned that the alleged victim of the stabbing had walked off before police arrived.
Officers began an investigation while also searching for the suspect. Two people who had been camped out in the area ahead of a concert approached and reported to officers that the same suspect had threatened them with a knife and demanded a sleeping bag from them.
Officers fanned out and searched for the suspect, quickly locating her and taking her into custody. The suspect, Angelique Butler, 52, of Portland, was in possession of the property taken from the victims, as well as a large knife (photo).
Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the alleged stabbing victim, described as an adult male, and it is unknown if he was injured.
Butler was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree, Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.
The PPB Major Crimes Unit assisted patrol officers with the investigation and are seeking any additional witnesses and/or victims.
