Pedestrian Dies Hours After Crash

A pedestrian has died hours after a crash in Southeast Portland.

On Sunday, December 15, 2024, at approximately 9:00 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to reports of a crash near Southeast Powell Boulevard and Southeast 82nd Avenue. When they arrived, officers located a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. The driver of the involved vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. The preliminary investigation suggests the driver was exiting a parking lot when he struck the pedestrian. Officers did not detect any signs of impairment.

On Monday, December 16, 2024, the Medical Examiner contacted the Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team to notify them that the pedestrian had died from injuries sustained in the crash. The pedestrian is identified as Muoi Te Hua, 81, of Portland. Her family has been notified of her death.

This is the 69th traffic-related fatality in Portland this year. That may be a higher figure than the Portland fatal crashes counted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA’s count excludes crashes involving suicide, private property, non-public roadways, non-motor vehicles, medical events, and deaths that happen more than 30 days after a crash.
