The Portland Police Bureau is offering an update to the Racial Equity Plan, now in its second year, and requesting applicants to volunteer to the Police Equity Advisory Council.

The Racial Equity Plan (REP) year-two goals have been crafted carefully with internal expert and community input. The Racial Equity Plan is part of a citywide effort to make sure that all community members, regardless of identity background, receive high quality city services.

The report is available for public download here: https://www.portland.gov/police/divisions/documents/2024-2025-ppb-equity-and-inclusion-goals/download

This effort has been led within the Police Bureau by the Equity and Inclusion Office, whose mission is to advise the Bureau on matters relating to serving diverse identities. The plan reflects the Bureau’s primary objectives to transform the relationship between the Police Bureau and the community, to reduce crime and the fear of crime, and to grow and develop the organization. It is our hope that the goals within this document reflect our priorities to the community ensuring equitable policing practices.

“The PPB Racial Equity Plan is a continued work in progress, and we are committed to the ongoing effort to improve our understanding and practice,” said Chief Bob Day. “The goals of this plan will challenge all of us inside and outside of PPB to be willing to listen, be curious, stay humble and demonstrate our commitment to one another. As the Chief of Police, I am proud to support our Equity Team, and I am grateful for the input from our Equity Advisory Committee.”

“We are so excited to announce our year two plan and begin to give public updates on the plans’ progress,” said Equity Program Coordinator Brody Sargent. “The creation of these goals was a long process involving multiple rounds of internal stakeholder and community input. Our hope is that we have created an effective and achievable guide to how the Police Bureau can best serve Portlanders in the next year.”
