###ORIGINAL MESSAGE BELOW###

On Tuesday October 3, 2017, at 11:17 p.m. an East Precinct officer located a stolen 2016 white Honda CRV in the 10000 block of Southeast Stark Street.

The officer turned on the emergency lights and siren to her patrol vehicle in an attempt to stop the driver of the stolen Honda. The driver did not stop for the officer. The officer pursued the suspect in the stolen vehicle and used several pursuit intervention techniques to attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect continued to elude officers until crashing near the on-ramp to northbound Interstate 205 and westbound Interstate 84.

Additional officers arrived in the area and took the driver and two passengers of the stolen Honda into custody. The driver and two other occupants were uninjured as a result of the crash.

During their investigation, officers requested detectives with the Portland Police Bureau Robbery Detail respond to their location.

Detectives arrived on scene and took over the investigation.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the three juveniles were involved in a string of carjackings and at least one robbery of a cell phone since mid September. Detectives believe the three were involved in the following robberies:

* On September 18, 2017 Central Precinct officers responded to the area near Southwest 4th Avenue and Southwest Yamhill Street on the report of a robbery in which an adult female sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her cell phone.

* On September 24, 2017 North Precinct officers responded to the area near North Killinsgworth Street and North Commercial Avenue on the report of a robbery in which an adult female sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her car keys.

* On September 28, 2017 East Precinct officers responded to the 4200 block of Southeast 82nd Avenue on the report that an adult female sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her 2012 gray Ford Focus. The stolen vehicle was later located by officers on October 2, 2017. The vehicle was found in the 4800 block of Northeast Flanders Street and had heavy front end damage from a crash that occurred after being stolen. (See attached photo)

* On September 29, 2017 East Precinct officers responded to the 1200 block of Northeast 102nd Avenue on the report of an adult female who sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her 2016 white Honda CRV. The driver of the Honda CRV crashed while attempting to elude officers on October 3, 2017. (See attached photo)

* On October 2, 2017 East Precinct officers responded to the 4000 block of Southeast 82nd Avenue on the report of an adult female who sustained minor injuries during the robbery of her vehicle. On October 3, 2017 the vehicle was recovered by officers. There were no occupants in the vehicle when it was located.

Based on information learned during the investigation, it is believed there were no weapons displayed or used during the robberies. According to victim and witness statements, the suspects used physical force to obtain the items and vehicles they stole.

The three female juvenile suspects were lodged at the Juvenile Detention Home on multiple charges including Robbery in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. The identities of the suspects are not being released because of their ages.

Detectives continue this investigation and believe there will likely be additional charges and more arrests.

Anyone with information about these cases or other cases linked to this string of events is asked to contact Detective William Winters at 503-823-0466 or William.Winters@portlandoregon.gov
