The pedestrian struck by a vehicle on Saturday October 7, 2017 at Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Jonesmore Street has died of injuries sustained during the crash. The deceased person was identified as 58-year-old Charles L. Bergeron of Portland.

Members of the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Investigation Unit continue to investigate this crash. Anyone with information about this crash should contact Officer David Enz at 503-823-2208 or David.Enz@portlandoregon.gov

Charles Bergeron's death is the 34th traffic related fatality in Portland during 2017.

Investigators assigned to the Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team continue to investigate an early Saturday morning crash near Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Jonesmore Street.

Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Jonesmore Street were reopened shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Based on preliminary information, investigators do not believe the driver of a 2003 white Toyota Highlander that struck a pedestrian was driving under the influence of intoxicants nor driving while distracted.

The pedestrian continues to receive medical care at an area hospital and remains in critical condition.

On Saturday October 7, 2017, at 2:12 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a vehicle versus pedestrian crash near the intersection of Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast Jonesmore Street.

Officers and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene and located an adult male laying on the ground with significant injuries sustained during the crash. Emergency medical personnel transported the injured man to an area hospital by ambulance for treatment of what are believed to be life-threatening injuries.

Because of the severity of the pedestrian's injuries the Portland Police Bureau Traffic Division's Major Crash Team (MCT) responded to continue the traffic crash investigation.

Based on preliminary information learned during the investigation, officers believe the pedestrian was traveling eastbound across Northeast 82nd Avenue near Northeast Jonesmore Street when he was struck by a vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Investigators believe Northeast 82nd Avenue will remain closed between Northeast Tillamook Street and Northeast Wasco Street for the next hour.

An update will be provided as the investigation continues.
