On Monday, October 15, 2001, at approximately 9:40 in the morning, 28-year-old Faafofoga Havila Abelein voluntarily came to the Justice Center, where she was interviewed by Portland Police Bureau Homicide Detectives Rich Austria and Mike Larson, in connection with the death of 27-year-old Jed Gavin Thomas.

According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, Thomas, whose body was discovered in a home in the 1500 block of N. Alberta, on October 6, 2001, died from head injuries.

After being interviewed, Abelein was charged with Murder and lodged without bail in the Justice Center Jail.

Abelein and Thomas reportedly knew each other, and Abelein, who gave her address as 1010 N.W 17th Avenue, in Portland, had recently moved from the N. Alberta Street address where Thomas’s body was found.

The Identification Division is currently experiencing difficulty with sending e-mail photos. Therefore, a photo of Faafofoga Havila Abelein is being made available for media pick up at the front desk of Central Precinct, 1111 SW 2nd Avenue.
