PAL Offers Texas Hold Em Tournaments

October 06, 2005 00:00

Portland (OR) - Oregon recently passed a law that allows qualified non-profits to offer Texas Hold Em Tournaments to raise money for their programs and the Police Activities League of Greater Portland (PAL) plans to be one of the first charities to benefit with its initial tournament on Sunday, October 16, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at The Refectory Restaurant. Mitch Stanley, owner of The Refectory Restaurant, has been a PAL Board member for more than 10 years and looks for new ways to raise funds to support PAL kids each year. “We’ve been offering the free Texas Hold Em games at the Refectory on Monday nights and when I heard about Oregon moving toward tournaments where people can win money and charities can benefit, I instantly thought of PAL,” said Stanley. “Our goal is for people to have fun and for PAL to be able to add to its endowment fund or scholarship kids into football.” The event is open to the first 100 people who register, and the cost is $115 to enter which includes a $100 buy-in for chips and $15 for a buffet supper served at the mid-way break. For those who lose early in the game, there will also be an opportunity buy more chips up to a maximum per tournament expenditure of $200. Prizes will start with the grand prize per tournament of $2,500 when there are 100 players, and go down to $100. Most prizes will be pre-paid VISA cards which are the equivalent of cash. The dates for the 2005 tournaments, all scheduled to be held at the Refectory Restaurant and Lounge, 1618 NE 122nd, are October 16, 23, 30 (Sundays at 2pm); November 9, 16 (Wednesdays at 7pm); November 20 (Sunday at 2pm) and December 4th (Sunday at 2pm). For more information, call 503-823-2098, or email for details.
