Suspect Arrested in Graffiti Investigation

On Tuesday, August 21, 2001, Officers Teresa Uttke and Dan Costello, of the SE Precinct Neighborhood Response Team, arrested and charged 24-year-old Travis Delon Wallender in connection with the acid etching vandalism of numerous businesses on SE Belmont Street between SE 33rd and SE 34th Avenue. The crimes occurred between 08/15/01and 08/16/01. This investigation was a cooperative effort between the Neighborhood Response Teams of Southeast and Central Precinct working with the Multnomah County District Attorneys office. The reported value of the damage exceeds $16,000.

The addresses on Belmont Street that have reported vandalism thus far are: 3300, 3301, 3308, 3314, 3320, 3326, 3333, 3341, 3356, and 3357.

Travis Delon Wallender is scheduled for arraignment at 2 p.m. today at the Justice Center.

The officers in charge of the investigation believe that additional crimes may have occurred and have yet to be reported to the Portland Police Bureau. Investigators are encouraging anyone who had property damaged by acid to call Officer Teresa Uttke at (503) 823-2155.
