This project will fund ~.5 FTE Program Specialist Sr. for one year to support planning efforts for Pediatric Surge Planning as part of the NW Oregon Health Preparedness Organization. The other .5 FTE will be funded by the Hospital Preparedness Program, making this a jointly-funded project. This request is a continuation request as this project is slated to continue into 2018. The project goal is to support hospitals and healthcare systems in increasing their capabilities to care for pediatric patients in a trauma surge event. This includes the creation of a regional pediatric emergency care plan which maximizes the use of limited pediatric resources to provide high-quality care to as many children as possible. This will require training non-pediatric providers to provide high-quality care for children during a health emergency, and creating a system to provide appropriate support to those non-pediatric providers.
