According to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, 2017 was the costliest year ever for weather and climate disasters in the United States. Most notably, Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria pounded the southeast, and large wildfires devastated areas of California. Here in the Northwest, the Chetco Bar and Eagle Creek fires tested our capacity to respond to and fund natural disasters.
As we plan for even more (and larger) disasters and move closer to the 2018 wildfire season, we’d like to hear from those who deployed to 2017’s major disasters. The Regional Disaster Preparedness Organization (www.rdpo.org) will invite First Responders and other Subject Matter Experts to contribute to a moderated panel discussion and share their experiences, findings, and applicable lessons from their participation in these events.
