Sustainability at Work was formed in 2007 as a solution for businesses lacking in time, budget and expertise and who want to improve their environmental practices. The program’s services have been informed by national and local research, input from hundreds of Portland businesses and by the technical expertise of our partners. Since its launch, the program has helped thousands of Portland businesses advance green initiatives in the workplace—from small start-ups and nonprofits to large corporations.
Sustainability at Work Staff
When you sign up for our program, you will be contacted by one of our Sustainability Advisors who will serve as your sustainability expert. Our Advisors have widely varied and diverse backgrounds, which enables us to match you with the best possible contact for your specific type of organization.
Genevieve brings more than seven years establishing successful recycling and composting programs with businesses. Genevieve offers assistance across many technical areas—including energy, water and transportation. She is skilled at conducting staff trainings and is well-versed in industry practices at event centers, grocery stores, restaurants and hotels.
Paul de Block
With seventeen years of experience in resource efficiency, Paul has helped hundreds of businesses reduce their environmental impacts. His current focus is on assisting restaurants, caterers, commissaries and other commercial kitchens. Every dollar saved on energy, water and sewer costs strengthens a kitchen’s profitability.
Having run her own consulting business, where she helped small businesses grow, Leesha is well acquainted with what it takes to run a business. She is skilled at providing technical advice and problem solving, has developed and facilitated small business workshops, and is an experienced program promoter and partnership builder. As a Sustainability Advisor, Leesha is building relationships with Portland’s minority-owned businesses, celebrating the sustainable practices they’re already doing, leveraging their existing knowledge, and looking for new opportunities.

Kim is lead sustainability advisor for the group. She has a passion for Portland and brings her own experience working for private and nonprofit organizations to her work with local businesses. When she’s not helping businesses broaden their sustainability efforts, she’s supporting the team behind the scenes.
Megan Shuler is the Program Manager for Sustainability at Work. She leads a dynamic, fun and knowledgeable team of advisors dedicated to helping businesses achieve their goals. Megan has over thirteen years of experience developing, managing and evaluating sustainability programs. To her work she brings a commitment to equity and expertise in sustainability industry best practices, trends and regional innovations.
As a certified Master Recycler, Lindsey is well-versed in the intricacies of recycling, composting and creative re-use opportunities and loves to see the great work Portland organizations are doing in all three areas. She is happy to answer questions (Can this be recycled?), provide resources (recycling boxes, signs), connect you with other experts and resources or help you promote your certification.
