  • Walk + Bike to School A great way to start your day!

  • Who walked and biked to school today? Thanks to the thousands of students from all over the city who walked and biked to school on October 8th!

  • Volunteer with Safe Routes There are lots of ways to get involved, from building bike shelters to organizing walking school buses.

  • Get Ready for Bike Safety! Safe Routes to School provides 10 hours of bicycle safety instruction to 4th and 5th graders throughout the city

Portland Safe Routes to School makes walking, biking and rolling around our neighborhoods and schools fun, easy, safe and healthy for all students and families while reducing traffic around schools.

A partnership of the City of Portland, schools, neighborhoods, community organizations and agencies, the Portland's Safe Routes program continues to make a big difference for students and families safety and health.

Since starting in 2005, Safe Routes has expanded from 8 initial partner schools to over 100 partner schools across 5 school districts today. The Safe Routes to School program has increased walking and biking to Portland schools by 35% since 2006.
